Autumn is on the march. We just finished with the observance of Halloween. My family did more than in most years, carving a jack-o-lantern, getting candy, watching The Nightmare Before Christmas. Something was missing, though. Namely, trick-or-treaters. We had none.

The turnout was a bit disappointing to my 13-year-old, who was excited to hand out candy. He found his consolation, though, in eating the same candy he aspired to handout. To the point of some admonishment from his father.
The Hindu holiday of Diwali just passed as well. As an Orthodox Christian, my participation in this holiday is very limited, but I did wear a kurta and watch some dancing at our office celebration.

As for my own faith, I celebrated The Feast of St. Raphael yesterday in observance of Raphael of Brooklyn, the patron saint of a parish not too far from here, which I had never visited. With help from attendees of our parish, we filled up the church.
We got to see my oldest son, who dropped in unannounced on All Hallow’s Eve. He is working with his guidance counselor to understand the feasibility of adding Arabic as a double major to his existing sociology track. He is still intent on graduating in 3 years, so that’s going to be an interesting planning process.
On the tech front, I just enabled NextDNS as a protective barrier to the internet for my youngest son. When he makes references to “The Hub,” which he hears about in school, it’s time to take action.
